Meet Missy, sweet waldorf style doll

Isn't she a sweetie?

I am loving the pink yarn. It came from Three Irish Girls Yarn. I like yarns that are lightly variegated in color shades like this pink.

Ready for the breezy days of spring with her pink, wool cardigan.
In my shop Folky Dots, now. :)

Edited with new pictures. I wasn't quite happy with how yesterdays pictures came out so we had a session again this morning.

FOR TODAY
March 9, 2011

Outside my window...gray, rainy and chilly, burrrrrrrr!

I am thinking...about some of my children.

I am thankful for...Quiet, early mornings.

From the learning rooms...Silas, my youngest knows several letter sounds...not because I taught him but because of the learning trickle down effect.

From the kitchen...enchiladas for supper tonight and seeing as I have some fairly brown bananas, I think I'll be baking up some banana bread.

I am excited about...putting a new dolly in my shop today.

I am praying...for big things.

I am wearing...favorite denim skirt, long sleeved black tee, navy blue socks and sneakers.

I am creating...dress for Livia and dolls and doll clothes.

I am going...to the orthodontist today, high school graduation meeting and church tonight.

I am reading...my bible.

I am hoping...to start dressing another sweet dolly today.

I am hearing...happy noises children make...a bell ringing, whistling, and dishes being washed in the kitchen.

Around the house...The laundry is caught up and my laundry room is clean.

One of my favorite things...families that love eachother.

A few plans for the rest of the week: dress two dolls and put them in my Etsy, clean out bathroom cupboard, make Livia another dress.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...My two daughters. Sweet sisters.

Happy, Busy Days

There has been a happy hum around our home. Everyone is busy and getting along. For several days my husband has gotten the boys up extra early. We've found a nice routine that has been good for the younger children and I. My husband and the boys have been out the door at daylight working around the place. Yesterday was building a fence and moving a gate. Today its cleaning out an old storage building.

I've been fixing breakfast for my oldest son at home, who recently was given a job with the Missouri Conservation Department, and getting him off to work. Meanwhile, I start the eternal laundry washing and oversee the younger children doing chores and tidying up a bit. Since the big boys are out early in the morning until breakfast, the younger children and I have been doing some of their morning, household chores.

Breakfast is at 8:00 AM. The boys come in starving and ready to eat anything in site and LOTS of it. This morning its eggs a bagels, which I must start soon.

After that we clean up breakfast and get started with school.

I've been sitting on the couch while the children work at school with my 2 youngest playing at my feet, working on dolls. I'm hoping to have two new little girls in my shop this week sometime.

I can hardly wait for spring to come. Soon the Dogwoods and Redbuds will be blooming. I love to look down through our woods and see their colors among the still barren trees. There is something comforting in the colors. Life is being renewed.

Confessions of a Pattern Junkie

I confess that I have a weakness for vintage patterns. Whenever I go to a thrift store, one of the first things I'm looking for is patterns. Once located, I have to look through all the patterns. I never know if there will be one sweet gem in the lot. I'd be sad to miss it...so I have to look. :)

This is about the sweetest doll clothes pattern I've ever laid eyes on.

I love, love, love, both little pinafores offered in this pattern. And the COAT! Sweet little coat with a seperate gnomes hood. Perfection all rolled into one pattern.

Dolly Day Friday, Meet Miguel and Silas

Fridays are officially Dolly Day Fridays! A fun idea being hosted by Jenny of the lovely Little Jenny Wren Blog.

Meet Miguel. The first little boy doll that I made.

When I started getting into making dolls my daughter suggested making a doll for Silas, the baby of the family. So I made up a doll for Silas and he loved him. Miguel sleeps with Silas every night.

Silas has gotten old enough now that if something happens to him it also happens to Miguel. Silas had a boo boo recently and Miguel had one too. I enjoy watching Silas' imagination bring Miguel to life.

When Silas saw this picture on my computer screen he said "Hey! thats a picture of my baby!"

Hoosiers Cabinets

Last year I was watching Craigslist for furniture and for fun liked to check into the antique listings to see what was out there and for what kind of price. I came across a Hoosier...that was actually a Sellers...but are commonly know as Hoosiers. Wow it was pricey! I didn't even talk to my husband about it.

A couple weeks later I was looking on Craigslist again and looking through the antiques when I came across the same Hoosier (Sellers) only this time the price was almost cut in half. On a whim, I called my husband who was in the city and asked him if he would go by and look at it. He did and this is what he came home with.
A beautiful old Sellers Kitchen Cabinet.

It really is a unique kitchen piece. This is where the farm wife of days gone by did all her mixing up, kneading, and storing. Daily, I think of a happy farm wife sifting the flour, kneading bread and taking pride in having her kitchen space neat and in order.

Check out the insides.
The flour sifter still works. The sifter is inside the flour bin and just needs to be attached to the bottom of the bin with some, yet to be found, wing nuts. I love how the cupboard doors have shelves for spices and whatnot. On the upper left door there is a wire for placing a cook book behind...it holds the cookbook open in place and another shelf for storing small containers or small items.

I love love love! the bottom cupboard door. When opened the bottom shelf pulls out with the door. There is a wire basket attached to the bottom of the door along with a cool wood shelf along the top of the door. The bottom drawer is metal is was made to be a bread drawer.

I've looked around on the internet for some of the original glass wear that went or could be purchased with a Hoosier. There is some beautiful stuff out there...hanging sugar bowls, small spice jars, coffee and tea canisters. Most of it is spendy though and I'm so thrilled with the Hoosier I don't mind watching thrift stores and rummage sales for neat looking jars.

Right now my Hoosier is housing cookbooks and two large containers of zinnia seeds I saved from my garden last year. Someday though I'd like to have it in my kitchen set up as part of my baking space. The only thing I plan to add is a small hook at the top of one side to hang my aprons on.

Hoosiers are quite the rage with some and there is a neat Flicker Group dedicated to The Hoosier Cabinet and there are some neat photos. The photos are fun to look through if your a Hoosier fan.

For now though I leave you with this sweet, vintage picture.

From the kitchen...chicken noodle soup for supper and I must make a grocery list today.

I am excited about...a date with my husband this weekend sometime.

I am praying...for my children

I am wearing...Khaki skirt, black tee, green sweater and socks and sneaker.

I am creating...dress for Livia and dolls.

I am going...to my beloved church tonight.

I am reading...Chatterer the Red Squirrel outloud to Felipe and Silas.

I am hoping...to knit today.

I am hearing...a quiet house and the trains whistle way off in the distance.

Around the house...some of my kitchen cupboards need a good cleaning.

One of my favorite things...a newborn baby.

A few plans for the rest of the week: finish Livia's dress, get 2 dolls finished and go on a date with my husband.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
Some of my married children and soon (very soon) to be married children. God has been more than good to me.
